Common-law marriage

The Pension Fund pays out benefits to life partners who live in a common-law marriage with the insured member. This applies also to same-sex partners.

Requirements

  1. both partners are unmarried and not related to each other and
  2. the surviving partner has no right to any widow's or widower's benefits and
  3. the life partner was registered in writing during the lifetime of the member, retiree or recipient of the disability pension and
  4. the requisite application made to the Board of Trustees within three months of the death of the insured member and
  5. their cohabitation under one roof had lasted for at least five continuous years at the time of the death of the insured member or the surviving life partner has to provide for one or more children they had together.
